One of the most popular dogs in the UK and North American is the Labrador retriever dog.  But, to be honest not all labs are the same.  Some labs have different body types, and others have different colors.  The most common division in types of labs is by the breeding origin.  Generally they’re referred to as English Labrador Retrievers and American Labrador Retriever.

The English Labrador Retrievers a built a bit stronger than the American Labs, their bodies are more blocky and solid, and their heads are wider.  Their personalities are very different from their American cousins, English labs are easy going and less excitable.

An American Labrador retriever is much taller and more lightly built then their cousins in the UK. There are usually called field Labradors.  For many years these dogs have been consider the best hunting animals.  American labs heads are narrower and their nose is longer, and they also have a much more lively personality then the English Labrador Retrievers.  They are still just as fun, friendly, and easy going as an English Labrador.

What makes it more confusing is that both Labrador retriever breeds can be found all over the world. The term “English Labrador” only means that their ancestors were originally from England and of course the term “American Labrador” means they were born in the U.S.  There is also an Australian breed that is not as popular in the US or in the UK, but can be found all over places in Asia.

Labrador Retrievers comes in many different colors, such as

• Silver Labrador Retrievers
• Red Labrador Retrievers
• White Labrador Retrievers
• Chocolate Labrador Retrievers
• Yellow Labrador Retrievers

So which type of Labrador will be best for you?  Well it really depends on what you want from a dog.  English labs are built more solidly, while the American labs are better hunting animals, and more energetic.  Both breeds are very good family pets.  Labrador Puppy training is very important, and should be started as soon as you bring him/her in your home.

House training puppies are usually done only two ways.  The first method is paper training which is used as an alternative in many homes.  The other method is becoming very popular form of training as a better alternative; this method is called crate training.

Paper training is a very effective way of potty training your puppy.  This method is done when you put newspaper in a particular spot and your puppy eliminates there when he/she needs to relieve.  It is very important when you are doing this method that you place a nice amount of newspaper down to avoid heavy cleaning.  To make things clean as possible keep you puppy away from rooms with carpet.

The second method that has been very popular lately with house training puppies is crate training.  This method is very effective; it is when you keep your puppy in a crate when no one is not around to keep an eye on him.  You should consider getting a crate that is big enough for you puppy to move around and play in.  The main reason this method is so effective is because dogs naturally do not like to eliminate where they sleep.

To be honest both methods have its positive and negatives but they’re the best way of house training puppies.  Crate training takes a lot of work and requires lots of attention, and also the maintenance can become annoying at times.  Paper training also requires a lot of work, but at least your puppy can learn to eliminate in the house.  Either method can be done, but is very important that you choose one and use it as soon as you bring your puppy home.

It is very important that you develop a good routine for your Labrador puppy training to be effective, especially if you are training your lab puppy to go outside.  If you are a new pet owner it is very important that you understand that training a Labrador takes time, patience, consistency and positive rewards.  Whenever your puppy eliminates in the right designated area, give him praise and reward him with a treat or playtime outside.  Doing this on a consistent basis will make him want to take care of his business quickly so he can get to having fun…  If you decide to just take him inside immediately after he take care of his business, you will have a problem the next time you take your Labrador puppy outside to eliminate.  Why?  Well because if he is not ready to go back inside, then he will not rush to take care of his business.  Labrador puppy training is not as hard as you may think; in fact training a Labrador is quite easy, because they’re naturally smart dogs.

This is probably the most common mistake that every new owner makes when it comes to Labrador puppy training, keeping a schedule.  So what do I mean by keeping schedule?  Keeping a schedules consist of the number of times a day your puppy eats, sleep, eliminates and play.  Keeping a schedule is very important because you will develop a pattern of potty training times throughout the day, and because it helps your puppy develop a routine.  Always remember like humans, dogs like routine and consistency.
